Deep Sea fish investigation (Norska Fiskerimyndigheter)
Investigating fish in Norway at 2000 meters required some modifications to the current Nanight Video light. For this project we needed a new pressure chamber to test our lights at the extreme pressure of the great depths in norway. A new pressure chamber was built using a filter housing from a scuba compressor. The filter housing is rated to 330 bar which is sufficient for our needs of this project. For safety, the pressure chamber is connnected to a water compressor instead of an air compressor.
We first found out that the current 5 mm glass breaks at around 600 meters. Filling up the housing with oil was considered, and tried. It was messy and the sollution was unfortunately dismissed as our current lithium ion batteries contain small amount of trapped air. Switching to lithium polymer batteries could have been a possible solution, but the much lower reliability of lithium polymer batteries made us test another option.
We doubled the thickness of the glass to 10 mm. However at 700 meters, the plastic end piece broke. Using a CNC milled end piece, we managed to pressure test the light to over 2000 meters without any leakage.
Underwater kites (Minesto)
The Nanight Video was used in a project to investigate cable movement inside of underwater kite drones. For this project a 72 hour of burn time was needed, which was
Microscope Light (Kjell)
High end microscopes are expensive equipment that require a good light source. Older microscopes are using lights that produce a lot of heat and updating the light source to a LED system is very expensive. Our dive light LED electronics was fitted with a potentiometer to enable precis control of the light output. The kit was then used to upgrade numerous microscopes of companies in Sweden.
